Beijing is the cultural and political center of the country. It attracts thousands of tourists, students and businessmen. You can start your cross-culture journey there as well.
Beijing University of International Relations is 50 years old. If you dream to become a professional in international relations, you can get great education there. You may gain bachelor, master and doctorate degrees. It is important to mention that Beijing University has corporate relationships with the institutions from overseas. The curriculum consists not only of learning languages (though it’s very important indeed) but also contains classes in Law, Trade and International economics; you’ll learn information system and management, science of administration. English, French and Japanese are languages taught in Beijing University of International Relations.
If you want to improve your level of knowledge and to learn Chinese, look for mandarin programs provided by the Center of International Education. This center is located in Haidian District (near Wu Dao Kou). Thousands of international students study in Beijing, you may become one of them. It is a great advantage that the center is near the subway, so transportation won’t be a problem for you.
You should know that classes are not big; averagely these are 3-10 students. You’ll be taught Chinese by the native speakers; all the teachers are experienced in teaching foreigners. You’ll be given a placement test before the classes start in order to define your level and to provide you with the suitable textbooks. Teaching materials depend on your knowledge as well.
After successful passing of exams, you’ll have the certificate submitting your category of study. Mandarin course can last some weeks, months or a year. There are usually 20 hours per week. If you choose intensive courses, they will run 30 hours (you will practice Chinese in the afternoon as well).
If you are one semester or one year student, you’ll have an elective in order to practice your listening and speaking skills and to get familiar with Chinese culture. Choose between the following electives: journalistic Chinese, Chinese painting, songs, calligraphy, etc.
CIE provides accommodation for international students: you’ll have a single bed, a private bathroom (24-hour hot water), telephone, TV, fridge, study tables and chairs, and even air conditioning. There are even calling and cleaning services. If you pay some extra money, you’ll have the Internet connection. There is laundry and kitchenette available on each floor. There is a grocery store and canteen.
